The credit card is made of many plastic layers, laminated together. The center is commonly made from a plastic resin known as polyvinyl chloride acetate (PVCA). This resin is then mixed with other materials, such as dyes and plasticizers to give it the appropriate look and feel.

A variety of inks or dyes, in various colors, are also used for printing credit cards. These inks and dyes are especially made for use on plastic. Special magnetic ink is also available to print the magnetic stripe (magstripe) on the rear side of the card. The inks are made by dispersing metal oxide particles in the appropriate solvents. Card issuers, such as VISA, which have their own holograms, use additional special printing processes which are involved for cards, like VISA, with featured holograms.

The manufacturing of the credit card takes place in the following steps:

1. Plastic compounding and molding: The plastic for the core sheet is made my melting PVCA with other materials. This molten mixture is put in the appropriate molding equipment, and is flattened to the right thickness by passing it through rollers. This sheet is then allowed to cool down.

2. Printing: Each card sheet is then printed with text as well as graphics. Silk screening and magnetic ink printing are the processes used. The magnetic strip can also be created using hot stamping. Magnetic heads are used to code and decode the iron particles in the strip, so that relevant information can be stored in them. However, the magnetic particles can only be useful if they are on the surface of the card, therefore this step is performed after the lamination.

3. Lamination: Essentially, lamination protects the card, and improves its strength. Lamination is done on both sides of the card.

4. Cutting and Embossing: After lamination, each sheet is cut into a set of cards. Each sheet gives a yield of around 63 cards. The sheet is first cut into seven sections longitudinally, and then each of the seven sections is cut into nine cards. Each card is now a separate credit card, and will be embossed with account numbers, and other information. The cards are now ready for shipment to the cardholders! Each card has to be of the premium quality. Customers cannot be given cards which will break or be damaged after a certain period of time. Key quality issues are linked with the compounding of plastic and color matching of the inks. The American National Standards Institute has a standard for plastic raw materials (ANSI specification x4.16-1973). Ingredients have to be correctly weighed, mixed and blended under the proper temperatures and other manufacturing conditions. Similarly, the molding process must be scrutinized to avoid flaws and defects, which could cause the cards to crack or rupture. The final quality check is to make sure the right numbers are stamped on the cards through the embossing process.

The many evolving technologies in this area will help create the credit cards with better quality and make them more cost effective in terms of manufacturing. New generations of credit cards might carry integrated computer chips, containing a variety of valuable information, making the card more useful, as well as secure.

Any kind of obsessive behaviour can throw a person's normally rational judgement out the window because the only thing that counts is satisfying the habit NOW!

Addiction also means more than likely the identity thief can and will justify their actions. Even if you catch them red handed, its very possible they'll say its not their fault, put the blame on you or just shrug their shoulders and say "so what?"

The movie features intense action, violence and innuendo. But, far more excitingly it also features a 17-layer DNA model from Indigo. So, for what was it those pilots needed a model of DNA? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

One of Indigo's "anatomically correct" 12-layer DNA models also features in the current hit movie "Fantastic Four." In this marvelous piece of cinema, a group of astronauts gain superpowers after being exposed to cosmic radiation (yeah, right!) and are destined to use them in fighting the world-dominating plans of the evil Doctor Victor Von Doom. They couldn't have thought of a more corny name for the villain, but at least the DNA molecular model used in the movie is scientifically accurate, having been built to the highest specifications by Indigo's Logan himself.

Once again, superheroes are the subject of another movie to feature molecular model kits supplied to Hollywood by Indigo Instruments. In "Return of Zoom", a movie based on the graphic novel "Zoom's Academy for the Super Gifted" by Jason Lethcoe, an unpopular high school girl sent to superhero school by her "mysterious" father and discovers her hidden talents (a la Harry Potter, methinks). The makers of this movie, also utilized a DNA model from Indigo to reveal the inner workings of human genetics at the molecular level. Unfortunately, for Indigo's image, the director asked for the model to be specially made so that it would fall apart easily. Don't ask why, you'll have to go see the movie. People will actually be annoyed if you are not instantly and constantly available rather than being pleased when you do call. People expecting you to be available all the time may be annoying. Cell phone calls follow you everywhere you are including your bathroom. Even during nighttime when you want to rest, cell phones continue to ring and annoy you. If it is important, no problem but if it is very menial, why you need to be bothered so late.

Today in this modern society, we live in and the proliferation of cell phones we see people talking anywhere and everywhere. If used for business, this may prove to be very effective and worthy. However, for very menial issues being bothered in your sleep and even during your bathroom time may be quite annoying if not outright disgusting. However, if you make yourself available all the time, you created your own nightmare.

Cell phone etiquette is getting to be a forgotten concept. You will see people talking on the phone loudly and disturbs people nearby in restaurants and even in offices. I am sure by now, once or twice in a meeting you will notice that when a cell phone rings, almost everyone around will immediately look for their cell phones. If you were the one talking, and then the person in front of you talks on his phone, how would you feel? I am sure you will feel belittled and ignored. Rude practice, and should be changed.

It may help people who use cell phones to follow certain degree of etiquette with respect to the use of cell phones specially in places where you may seem rude if you use or even when your cell phone rings.

When you are in a place of worship, it may be necessary to leave your cell phone in the house or at least turn it off if you do not want to be away with it. This is because ringing cell phone will not just disturb you while you pray it will also disturb others. You do not need to show off your expensive gadget in a place of worship.

During meetings, please turn off your cell phone; it is rude to have your phone ringing while somebody speaks. Disruption may cause problems especially when the meeting tackles extremely important issues. However, if you are waiting for terribly important call, you may use the vibrate mode of your cell phone to alert you when a call is in-coming and leave the meeting if you need to answer the call. You may also inform the possible caller that you are in a meeting and that you cannot be disturbed.

When traveling and if you are on-board an aircraft, you will be required to turn off your phone. This is because electronics devices may interfere with the aircraft's avionics. Thus, it is a requirement to turn of your phone for safety reasons. However, for extremely long flights, airline companies allow cell phone usage at a certain time, if you really need to make a phone call, use this time allotted if necessary.

Cell phone have become to be a necessity nowadays, that is why most people use it and cell phone manufacturers have continuously develop different usage and functions for this very small gadget. Be globally competitive, but you should understand that being rude is not part of modernity. Follow certain degree of etiquette; this will be very helpful to you and your business.

Why should you get a homeowner insurance

Homeowners insurance protects the homeowner from financial losses against theft, storms, fire, flood and all other causes explained in your policy. Read your policy carefully to understand your coverages. Reading policy is not enough you should also know about your rights. People who are in debt can easily get out of debt. They can get debt help from the various banks that are there. You should approach your local bank with which you have a checking or a savings account. In most cases they are willing to help their customers. In this way they act as debt helpers for you. You can also seek the advice of many professionals who can help you lessen your debt or help you pay back the debts. Banks will ask for your financial statement over a period of one financial year. In this way, they will be able to ascertain your revenue streams as well as your expenses.

Relive the taste of history with bathtub gin

Though the history of alcohol is a rich and interesting one, the history of gin is no exception. Of all fascinating milestones in the history of the drink is undoubtedly bathtub gin produced during prohibition. An alcoholic beverage was illegal during this restrictive period of American history in the country. Alcohol was sold on the black market and it was produced in homes across the country.

Bathtub gin was actually produced in homes. All those who were making the bootleg gin used denatured alcohol in the process. The poisons are taken out from the liquid to recover ethyl alcohol that was flavored with juniper flavoring. The bathtub gin was then diluted and put into bottles. Although for some this may have not been the best tasting drink on the planet, but for all those who wanted a cocktail during the prohibition era had little choice.

In all, there were seventy-five unique formulas for making bathtub gin. The alcohol needed to be denatured in order to be safely ingested by people. If the alcohol was not purified properly, devastating results took place. At times there were fatalities that were linked to impure bathtub gin. Hence the concoction often proved to be risky and even deadly. In spite of all the risks involved people continued to take risks with the home made concoction.

The expression “to die for” is presently used in the figurative sense. Though, when the phrase first appeared in common speech, it was meant quite literally. Bathtub gin was a risky venture that cost some party-goers their lives. This is the highest price one would pay for a good time.

On the other hand, people take the same chances today when they use illegal substances like heroine and cocaine. Likewise bathtub gin is in fact no different. Despite the significant risks involved, a majority of party-goers don’t take the risks into account. Fatalities happen to other people. The risk is generally ignored.

Ironically, gin was at first introduced to civilization because it had medicinal purposes. Gin and tonic together was produced as a medicine to fight malaria. The key ingredient, quinine that was found in the tonic water actually helped to get rid of malaria. Eventually the gin and tonic recipe became a favorite drink among social crowds.

The period of prohibition was a dangerous time for many who wanted to continue drinking alcohol. It was this drive to drink that powered the production of concoctions like bathtub gin. The drinks were in fact to die for in some cases. Though some people still make moonshine today, the process is not nearly as dangerous. At any case, it is best to set aside the bathtub for bathing.

Hiring the right property manager for your rental income property

I'm often asked what to look for when picking a property manager. Its a great question, and I’ll try to cover a few important points. Although they can sometimes be expensive, they can also save you from many headaches that go along with being a landlord. I’m going to ask more questions then I’ll answer, but these are questions you’ll want to keep in mind when interviewing managers.

1 - Cost: Managers generally charge a monthly fee to watch and maintain your property. Those fees can range from as low as 5% or so, to upwards of 20%. Obviously, you should look for a company that charges less and provides more services.

2 - Communication: For me, communication with a manager is of the utmost importance. I need someone who uses email, and is responsive to both the telephone and email. If I don’t get a response back in a timely manner, it is time to walk. In addition, you need someone who can deal with you and your idiosynchricies. Some of us are needier then others. You want to let companies know up front where you stand, and make sure they’re willing to be flexible for you.

3 - Termination of your Agreement: In the event that your “relationship” does not work out, you want to know up front what exactly it will take to terminate your agreement. Is there a charge for breaking your contract? Penalties?

4 - Repairs and Maintenance: Does the company have their own maintenance crew, or do they contract out to a handyman? How much do they bill out at? Can they handle all kinds of repairs? What happens if they can’t do something? Do they have other contractors that they work with?

In addition, you probably want to have a maximum that the company can spend without contacting you. Generally, I will allow my managers to do what they need to as long as it is for something under $100. I must confirm any expenses over that.

If you are a bit more of a control person, you can also request invoices/reciepts for expenses.

5 - Monthly Statements: Does the company send out monthly or quarterly statements. I wouldn’t deal with anyone that does not provide monthly income/expense statements.

6 - Evictions: How does the company handle evictions? What are the costs to evict?

7 - Yard Work: How much do they bill yard work out at? Landscaping? Do they handle snow removal? Mow lawns? How much does each cost?

8 - Reserves: What kind of reserve does the company require? The reserves are used in case anything comes up. Most managers will require a certain amount.

9 - Accounting: When will the manager mail your check to you? Beginning of the month? State laws usually dictate accounting rules for managers, but you wo want to know all of this up front. Tenant Deposits: How do they handle deposits? Are they comingled, or simply put together with all other income for your account?

10 - Vacancies: I’ve actually interviewed companies that will charge you 1/2 a month’s rent to fill vacancies in your property. I quickly ended my interview with these people. There is no reason to pay this fee, since many managers don’t need to charge it. You will need to fill your vacancies, so you will need some advertising done . . .

11 - Advertising: Where do they advertise properties? Are for rent signs put on the property’s lawn? Do they advertise in the paper? Online? There are quite a few effective places to advertise properties for free, online. Do they use these? In addition, you want your property advertised effectively. Do they have the basic HTML skills to add images to their for rent ads online? This makes a huge difference, trust me.

12 - Section 8: Do they have experience dealing with section 8 properties / tenants? Do they know what is entailed with such properties?

I also like to know how many properties they manage, how many managers work at the company, what specific areas they focus on, how long they have been in the business, and other questions about their experience. This should be a good start to get you going.

When you make the decision to purchase a home, you are committing to a lot of debt. You want a home inspection, but be careful with your choice of inspectors.

When purchasing a home, it should be required that the buyer set up a home inspection on the home. This home inspection is designed to ensure the home is in good condition and to notify the buyer of any potential problems in the home. However, there are some things that potential buyers should be aware of when having a home inspection done.

In order to ensure that the home inspection goes properly, it is important for the buyer to be careful about which home inspection service to go with. Often times, the seller or seller’s realtor will make a suggestion for a home inspection service. Often, they will even offer discounts for using the service. Should you go with the discounted service offered by the seller?

Sure, the discount can be good, but you could potentially be setting yourself up for a big loss in the future. To understand why, first understand that the real estate agent has a pretty big commission on the line. Real estate agents often make 6 to 8 percent of the total sale. This means they have a lot riding on every sale and they are looking to close out every deal they can. While ethics should drive them to be fair in every sale, the sad reality is they are looking after the seller and their commission, not you. Hardly a surprising statement, eh?

Home inspection services recommended by the agent often carry an unspoken agreement. If the inspection reports are favorable to the seller, the inspector will get more business. If they are not, the seller’s agent will find someone else for future deals. Human nature suggests this situation can lead to certain deficiencies being overlooked by the home inspector, a fact you will inevitably pay for in the future.

The bottom line is that you, as a buyer, need to be aware of the importance of objective home inspections. The inspection is going to tell you if there are any problems with your potential dream home. If there are, you can demand the seller have them repaired, lower the price or pay cash funds at closing so you can have it done. If you use an inspector recommended by the seller or seller’s agent, you run the risk of missing some major problem with the property. Don’t do it!

Would you agree that the 20th century brought us a staggering amount of knowledge? We experienced huge changes while creating the worst century for making trouble to the environment and massive killings of human kind. So I ask, how can we be so smart and yet so stupid? Albert Einstein put it this way: Ethics is what should be (values). Science is what is (facts). It is driven by questions and influenced by cultural values and religion. It appears that science and technology were developed without any ethical values in the 20th century.

The Coach wonders . . . can we correct this in the 21st century?

3. ON A GREAT SPEECH

Here are a few points to keep in mind when you are delivering a speech , whether you are trying to inspire or persuade an audience to take some action.

Always have someone introduce you - include your credentials, your experience in this area, why you were selected to speak vs. someone else.

Grab the audience's attention with a strong opening - ask a question, make a startling statement, tell a story.

Provide a concise statement of purpose of the speech Challenge your audience - tell them what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear.

Present the solution - provide the plan to solve their problem.

Keep to three major points - this helps with retention Conclude by asking for something: action, willingness to think differently, make a change.

4. ON GLOBAL AGEING

The largest global survey into attitudes towards ageing and retirement ever conducted has found that, around the world, people want to abandon traditional models of retirement in favor of self-sufficiency and a mix of work and leisure. Given a choice, most people (36 per cent) think their government should enforce additional private savings, rather than increase the retirement age (23 per cent), raise taxes (12 per cent) or reduce pensions (12 per cent). Personal bank HSBC's Future of Retirement: What the world wants study surveyed 21,000 people and 6,000 companies in 20 countries and territories and found that, while many older people want to work, and most employers recognize their skills, opportunities are still limited.

The Coach sez . . . there are enormous challenges and opportunities presented by global ageing.
